Apple on Monday released iOS 12.0.1 with fixes for several significant bugs discovered over the past few weeks.

iOS 12.0.1 Bug Fixes

Most notably, iOS 12.0.1 patches an issue that was causing problems with iPhone charging via Lightning cable. Yes, that means today’s update officially squashes the “Chargegate” bug.

Discovered shortly after the release of iOS 12 and the iPhone XS lineup, the bug sometimes prevented an iPhone from charging when plugged into a wall outlet using a standard Lightning cable.

The bug seemed to impact iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max models, though not all 2018 handsets were affected. There were also some sporadic reports of older iPhone and iPad models experiencing the issue, which suggested that it was a software bug in iOS 12.

iOS 12.0.1 also addresses a Wi-Fi bug that causes some iPhone XS or XS Max models to automatically join a slower 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network, rather than a 5GHz Wi-Fi network. Users who were experiencing shoddy Wi-Fi speeds should see that issue addressed as their devices will now opt for the faster 5GHz network.

It’s worth noting that anecdotal user reports suggested that this software bug could be addressed by a full iTunes restore without a backup.

There’s currently no word on whether iOS 12.0.1 fixes the bug that caused mediocre LTE speeds on iPhone XS devices, as it wasn’t listed in Apple’s release notes. Since a full restore fixed the LTE and Wi-Fi bugs, it seems plausible that iOS 12.0.1 does as well.

The new update also includes fixes for more minor bugs, including an issue that caused subtitles not to appear on certain video apps and another that may have made Bluetooth unavailable in certain circumstances. It also restores the original position of the “.?123” key on iPad keyboards — which was moved in iOS 12.

Additionally, iOS 12.0.1 also patches the security vulnerability discovered last week that may have allowed an attacker to bypass a passcode and view photos or contacts from the Lock screen using VoiceOver, according to Apple’s security content page.

It’s worth noting that most of these bugs have been fixed in beta versions of iOS 12.1, though Apple has decided to squash them with a public release instead of waiting for that OS update to drop.

How to Download iOS 12.0.1
